It’s with great honor that I share with you a leadership message from Pastor Elias Hoyos. Pastor Elias church is located in Barranquilla, Colombia. He is a man full of the Spirit and passionate for the Lord work. Pastor Elias is a true leader, and this is why I am so pleased to have his message on spiritual leadership on this website. He and his wife have a beautiful and profound ministry “Justo A Tiempo” (Just in Time). His ministry has touch so many life’s including mine both personally and professionally. LEADERSHIP

There is only one word that defines what leadership means, that word is: influence. Does anyone listen to you and follow you? Then you are a leader. We are all born with that DNA because we were created in the image and likeness of God, that is why without Him we have no meaning in life and lack understanding to carry out the purpose for which he created us.

Each person on earth has a responsibility to first lead the life he has received as a gift from God, therefore, it is essential to learn how to develop that leadership and be a good steward of what has been given to us.

Everything gets up or falls (be it church, family, business, etc.) depending on the leadership you have. Leadership is based on seeing people and seeing their needs.

LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES

MATTHEW 9: 35-39 - 2 SAMUEL 23: 13-17

• Who are those around you: the biggest problem of an organization is people who do not have the same spirit as their leaders. The people who are part of a team, the first characteristic they should have is: a spirit like that of their leader, when we talk about spirit we refer to character, everything that reveals thought, attitude, strength, morality and many more features .

"You cannot walk with someone who does not have the same DNA as you, at some point it will become a stumbling block or an unbearable burden for progress." What is the use of having a team of many, when only 1% have what you have? Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (Amos 3: 3).

"If a pastor surrounds himself with people who do not have the same character, it is most likely that he will not finish his pastoral work well and the church will become a difficult burden to carry." They can walk with you, but they are not with you, they don't have the same spirit that God put in you to carry out their purpose, their vision.

• The leader must be trained: the leader called by God must be PROCESSED otherwise he will not resist when he is in abundance. From the greatness of your calling will be the greatness of God's treatment with you.

What are we trained for? Exodus 3:10 to complete the day which is to take the people from a place of captivity to a high place of government, of influence. If Moses does not line up with God, he could not go to face Pharaoh. Moses needed to defeat the "pharaoh" in him to defeat the one in Egypt.

• The leader is called to serve: Psalm 78:70 we see God's call to David and then his ROL as leader. Jesus said: I did not come to serve me but to serve.

The leader is called and has a function which is to minister, to serve people. When God called David he found him working behind the sheep. He finds leaders in the ordinary, in the ordinary aspects of life. God saw a shepherd of secular animals to be his disciple, the shepherd of his people. God sees you in your Ordinary activities, in how you treat people, then promote yourself.

• The most important gift of the leader is LOVE: It is always important to save a life.

Psalm 78:72: He guided them with integrity of the heart (first heart) and then with light hands (ability = how to do the work, learn from others). The more LOVE, there will be more transformation, integrity of heart, trust, sincerity, honesty, good motivation. The leader must have heart and ability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF A LEADER

1. Project a vision.

2. Maintain Balance: it is important that the leader has balance in all things. Example: Exodus 18, Moses spent all day in counseling with the people, his life was not being balanced. Then God gave him a process:

• First pray, intercede for the people.

• Teach the people the word.

• Show the people the way.

• Show the people the work they should do.

• Choose the right people and instruct them to be leaders.

• After training then proceed to assign.

The leader must have balance.

3. Empower or delegate authority to people: the leader cannot work with manipulation. Pharaoh was a controller of people, limited his growth; Therefore God sent Moses to set his people free. The leader must help people with their gifts, must give them authority to do things with what the Lord has given them.

4. Challenge people's thinking: the leader who grows must help people to grow and for us to grow we must be challenged. You have to challenge people, challenge them so that they don't conform to what they have, but instead grow.

5. Supervise the pulse and maintain a course (self evaluation): it is like the doctor who tells you how your pulse is, assess whether people are happy or passive, evaluate what is happening in the church. If you need a challenge now, if you need to go outside and preach. A leader has to walk among the congregation to recognize what happens with each life and know what each person needs to move forward.
